The 2014 edition of MCA Canada’s Annual National Conference was a wildly successful event held n St. John's, Newfoundland at the downtown Delta St. John's Hotel. Delegates enjoyed world-class educational programs and social events hosted by MCA Canada. They also had an opportunity to enjoy some of our country’s most famous hospitality as the Newfoundland delegation was front and center throughout the week.

As always, business comes first. MCA Canada’s Board of Directors joined the regional and provincial MCA managers for several days of high-level meetings prior to the formal start of the conference. Monday opened with the Managers Council Meeting and the MCA Canada Executive Committee Meeting. Tuesday, the Standing Committees met followed by the 2014 National Board of Directors Meeting. Also on Tuesday, the Education Foundation, CMCEF, hosted its Board of Trustees meeting as well as their Annual General Meeting. Wednesday, the Mechanical Service Contractors of Canada  hosted it's annual Forum for Service Contractors. Friday MCA Canada held its Annual General Meeting and heard updates from many of our industry guests and partners. Key issues arising from these meetings will be featured in upcoming editions of Just The Fax.

MCA Canada Chairman, Gaetan Beaulieu and MCA Newfoundland national Director, Jack Bavis shared the podium for a old fashioned "Welcome To Newfoundland Kitchen Party and Lobster Feast" graciously hosted by our Newfoundland delegation. Entertainment featured the hilarious and entertaining musicians and actors from "Wicked Altogether". What a great start!

The next morning, delegates were met with traditional music, breakfast and featured guest speaker, General Rick Hillier. Born in Newfoundland, General Hillier rose to become the highest ranking leader in the military serving as Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces. He was hugely entertaining with some excellent words of wisdom on leadership. The companions then departed for a "Taste of Newfoundland" tour.

Delegates enjoyed a true pub crawl on Thursday Night at our "Rally In The  Alley". Members were divided into three teams and headed of to world famous George Street for a fish n' chips dinner, singing, dancing and of course, cod kissing and most were screeched in! The night ended with everyone together dancing the night away at the Martini Bar. Enough said!

Friday morning had the contractors enjoying breakfast and a highly successful Supplier Innovation Showcase while the companions met with award winning designer and renovation expert, Karen Sealy.   Of course there were more official meetings, including MCA Canada's Annual General Meeting. These meetings were followed by the John Bradshaw Memorial Golf Tournament at The Osprey at Clovelly.

Saturday morning was the traditional Mechanical Contractors Network Awards Breakfast. Anchormen Dave Flamand and Brad Mason were hilarious in their Newfoundland Fishing gear and accompanying accents. There was plenty of good fun and a lot of laughs, along with the presentation of several trophies, awards and certificates. Thanks to our special correspondent’s Bill Dixon, Gordon Leforte, Peter Ashton, and Chairman Gaetan Beaulieu. Congratulations to all our award winners who will be recognized in future editions of Just The Fax.

Saturday night we held our "Newfoundland Farewell". It was quite a night, with hugs good-bye and dancing all night long. Stay tuned for more and make sure to book your calendars for next year, November 16-19, 2015 in Palm Springs, California!
